Editorial Policy & Newsroom Code of Ethics
Website: https://tathyansh.com
Effective Date: October 30, 2026
Compliance Standard: Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (India).
1. Mission Statement & Journalistic Principles
Tathyansh is an independent, non-partisan, multilingual digital news and journalism platform. Our primary mission is to provide accurate, verified, factual, and context-rich news and analysis to our readership in Hindi, Bengali, and English.
Our newsroom operates on five core pillars:
- Truth & Accuracy: Rigorous verification prior to publication.
- Fairness & Impartiality: Balanced representation of diverse viewpoints without partisan bias.
- Editorial Independence: Complete separation of editorial judgement from commercial and political interests.
- Accountability & Transparency: Transparent sourcing, clear bylines, and prompt acknowledgement and rectification of errors.
- Respect & Harm Minimization: Dignity and protection for vulnerable individuals, minors, and victims of crime.
2. Bylines, Attribution & Sourcing Guidelines
2.1 Author Bylines & Timestamps
- Every original news report, investigative story, feature, and opinion piece published on Tathyansh must display:
- Full Author Byline: The verified legal or professional name of the reporter/correspondent.
- Author Profile: A clickable link to the author's biography, editorial role, and previous work.
- Publication Timestamp: The exact date and time (with timezone) when the article went live.
- Last Updated Timestamp: Marked clearly whenever substantial additions, updates, or corrections are made.
2.2 Sourcing and Verification
- Primary Sources First: Reporters must prioritize eyewitness testimony, verified primary documents, court filings, official government press releases, recorded audio/video, and peer-reviewed scientific data.
- Multiple Source Corroboration: Any controversial, investigative, or unverified assertion requires independent verification from at least two separate, credible sources.
- Anonymous Sources: Anonymous attribution ("sources close to the development", "senior officials speaking on condition of anonymity") is permitted only when:
- The source faces tangible threat to their safety, employment, or liberty.
- The information is of paramount public interest and unobtainable by other means.
- The reporter has disclosed the identity to an Executive Editor or Desk Chief, and corroborating evidence has been reviewed.
2.3 Wire Services & Syndicated Reporting
- When publishing wire reports (e.g., Press Trust of India, Asian News International, Reuters) or content from partner publications, the source must be explicitly credited in the byline and header (e.g., "Agency Report: PTI").
3. Fact-Checking, Verification & Corrections Policy
3.1 Pre-Publication Fact-Checking
Every draft must undergo multi-tier editorial desk review:
- Verification of quotes against raw recordings or official statements.
- Cross-checking of all dates, statistics, geographical locations, and spelling of names.
- Verification of image metadata, context, and authenticity to prevent altered or AI-hallucinated deepfakes from being passed off as real news photographs.
3.2 Corrections & Retractions Policy
Tathyansh is committed to promptly acknowledging and correcting errors of fact.
- Minor Factual Clarifications (Typo/Spelling): Corrected directly within the text without altering editorial substance.
- Substantive Corrections:
- The corrected factual statement is updated in the body.
- An explicit "Correction Note" is added at the top or bottom of the article:
Example:Correction (October 30, 2026): An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that the project cost was ₹500 crore. The verified budget allocated is ₹50 crore. The error is regretted.
- Retractions: If a published article is determined to be fundamentally false, defamatory, or irredeemably compromised, it will be formally retracted with a clear public statement explaining the reason for retraction, while preserving editorial integrity.
4. Editorial Independence & Separation of Advertising
4.1 Independence from Commercial Influences
- Advertisers, corporate sponsors, and commercial partners have zero influence over newsroom coverage, editorial tone, or publication schedules.
- No reporter or editor may accept gifts, subsidized travel, or personal compensation from subjects or organizations they cover.
4.2 Clear Labeling of Commercial Content
To comply with Google Play News guidelines and global consumer standards:
- Display Advertising: Standard programmatic ads (via Google AdMob / AdSense) are placed strictly within clearly framed banner zones with legible "ADVERTISEMENT" labels.
- Sponsored Content / Native Advertising: Any content funded, provided by, or created in partnership with a brand or sponsor must carry prominent, unambiguous disclosure tags:
- "Sponsored Feature"
- "Brand Partner"
- "Paid Content"
- Sponsored content must never be presented as independent editorial journalism.
5. Opinion, Analysis & Editorial Distinction
To prevent misleading the public:
- Straight News: Reports strictly on observable, verifiable facts, quotes, and developments.
- Analysis / Explainer: Contextual reporting providing historical or technical background; clearly tagged as "Analysis" or "Explainer".
- Opinion / Editorial / Op-Ed: Personal viewpoints, commentary, and columns must be explicitly categorized under "Opinion", accompanied by the author's credentials and a standard disclaimer:
"The views expressed in this column are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent the editorial stance of Tathyansh."
6. Protection of Minors, Victims & Sensitive Coverage
6.1 Non-Identification of Sexual Offense Victims
- In strict adherence to Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code (and Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act:
- Under no circumstances will Tathyansh publish the name, photograph, address, school, family details, or any identifying particulars of any victim or survivor of sexual offenses or crimes against minors.
6.2 Crime Reporting & Due Process
- Accused individuals must be referred to as "accused" or "suspect", never as guilty, until convicted by a competent court of law.
- Fair coverage must be given to acquittals, discharges, or dropping of charges when subsequent legal proceedings overturn initial allegations.
6.3 Self-Harm & Suicide Reporting
- In compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Press Council of India reporting guidelines:
- Headlines must never sensationalize suicide or self-harm.
- The specific method, mechanism, or precise location of suicide will never be described in detail.
- Every report addressing suicide or mental distress must conclude with standard helpline contacts:
If you or someone you know is in crisis or needs emotional support, reach out to KIRAN (1800-599-0019) or Vandrevala Foundation (+91 9999 666 555).
7. Community & User-Generated Content (Comments Policy)
User comments on articles must foster constructive democratic discussion. The following content is strictly prohibited and subject to automated filtering and human moderation:
